I'll attempt to outline the procedure for this. It is really not that
complicated, but it is easy to miss something. I will assume you already
have the messaging suite installed and working with a modem. If not, RTFM
and get that working first.

WINDOWS NT MACHINE SETUP

1) Make sure the Series 5 is connected to the NT box and that PsiWin
works.

2) Turn OFF PsiWin (to free up the serial port).

3) Install NT's Remote Access Service (from NT's network control panel).

4) Install the modem device titled 'Dial-Up Networking Serial Cable
between 2 PC's' on the correct COM port. If you need help doing this, read
the Remote Access Service help file.

5) In the Remote Access Setup dialog box, click the 'Configure' button.
From there, choose 'Receive Calls Only'. Click 'OK'

6) In the Remote Access Setup dialog box, click the 'Network' button.
Under 'Encryption Settings' choose 'Allow any authentication including
clear text. Turn off NetBEUI and IPX. Turn on TCP/IP. Click the
'Configure' button (the button next to 'TCP/IP').

7) You show now be in a dialog box titled 'RAS Server TCP/IP
Configuration'. Choose 'Allow remote TCP/IP clients to access:' 'Entire
Network'. If you have a DHCP server on the network, click 'Use DHCP...'.
Otherwise, pick a network number you know is free on your local ethernet
segment. You CANNOT choose just any number. Have you net admin help you if
need be.

8) OK out of all the dialog boxes and restart your NT machine.

9) When NT comes back up, launch the 'Modems' control panel. Choose your
'Direct Connection...' modem and click 'Properties'. Change the baud rate
(usually to 115200).

10) You may need to turn off PsiWin again (if you have it auto loading).

11) Launch NT's Remote Access Administrator. It should be in the
'Administrative Tools' group under your Start menu.

12) Under the 'Server' menu, choose 'Start Remote Access Service'.

13) Under the 'Users' menu, choose 'Permissions...'. Give the users that
will be authenicated over the serial link dial-in permission.

ON THE PSION SERIES 5

1) Turn off 'Remote Link'... press Ctrl+L in the system screen.

2) Launch the Modem control panel. Choose 'Direct cable connection'. Press
Ctrl+E to edit the profile. Make sure the baud rate matches the NT box
(usually 115k/Serial). Use the default settings everywhere else here.

3) Launch the Network control panel. Under 'Current network service',
choose 'NT Direct Connection'. Press Ctrl+E to edit the profile. Under the
'Account' tab, enter your user name and password. Under the 'Addresses'
tab, check 'Get IP address from server' and 'Get DNS address from server'.
Under the 'Login' tab, check 'Use login script'. There should already be a
canned login script that will work.

4) That should be it! Launch the email client or browser to see if it
works.

If you have any questions, tell Psion to include instructions on
connecting directly to NT RAS!
